The Pre-Amp Team

Researchers

Dr Esmee Hanna

Principal Investigator

Dr Esmée Hanna is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Health and Wellbeing in Society at De Montfort University. With a background in sociology, Esmée’s research interests are around qualitative psychosocial explorations of gender, health and the body. Much of her work explores topics which are hidden or groups who may be marginalised. She is interested in using lived experiences to tell stories that may otherwise be seldom heard within research and how such stories can bring about real-world changes. Esmée has previously conducted work around men’s health and wellbeing, young men’s experiences of parenting, male infertility and disposal of limbs after amputation. She has published three books and has had articles published in a range of journals, including Body& Society, Sociological of Health and Illness, Qualitative Research, Journal of Medical Ethics and Disability and Rehabilitation. The PreAmp project is part of an NIHR Advanced Fellowship which Esmée was awarded in 2020.

Dr Sasha Loyal

Research Fellow

Dr Sasha Loyal is a Lecturer in Health and Wellbeing in Society at De Montfort University. She has a background in Psychology and Sociology and is involved in a number of social science research projects that explore health related topics such as amputation, reproduction and care experiences.

Dr Maria Gonzalez-Aguado

Research Fellow

Maria is a researcher working at the intersection of medical sociology, health services research and science and technology studies (STS). She is keen on developing co-design and other participatory methodologies to assess the impact of health inequalities in the prevalence and patient outcomes of vascular disease. Maria joined the Pre-Amp team in September 2022 and has led the ethnographic work in one of the study’s sites and is involved in the co-design and testing of new resources. In addition to Pre-Amp, she is currently working on two other projects looking at patients’ lived experience of, and views on, the screening of vascular disease.

Lucina Wilde

Research Fellow

Lucina is the Research Fellow on the PreAmp project at De Montfort University. Her research interests include the experiences of people living with chronic conditions and disabilities, and their families/carers. Alongside her work on the PreAmp project, Lucina is also a research assistant on a project exploring the use and implications of a genetic test called expanded carrier screening.
