Welcome to the PreAmp website!
PreAmp is a research study which aims to understand and improve how individuals are psychologically prepared for amputation surgery. This site provides information about the study and its findings, along with the patient and healthcare professional resources we co-designed with staff and patients in two NHS organisations. PreAmp is funded for four years (2020-2024) by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and based at De Montfort University. The project is led by Dr Esmée Hanna and includes a team of three Research Fellows and collaborators at three UK hospital vascular wards.

“Everything seemed to be that once you’ve had the amputation, we’ll do the discussion. Well, to me, a lot of that, probably 90% of that, should have been done before the amputation, rather than afterwards“
